Phillies to Wear Special Jerseys
Tuesday, March 03, 2009
On Opening Night in front of a national television audience, the defending World Series champions will take the field at Citizens Bank Park. The game will be the first step towards the first repeat in the National League as World Series champions since the Big Red Machine did it in the seventies.
When the Phillies take the field that night they will do so in a special gold trim jersey. The team name, player's name and number will be outlined in gold on the front and back of the jersey. There will also be a World Series champions patch that will outlined in gold trim as well.
I know that the Red Sox and Cardinals have done this in the past after winning the World Series. But it seems as though nobody else has done it, except for the Nationals who have gold trim incorporated in their standard uniforms.
Some sources indicate that they may wear these jerseys a second time for the ring ceremony game, which I will be attending. Pat Burrell will also be at the pre game ceremony to receive his World Series ring. after he gets what he deserves he will hop a plane to Boston to meet up with the rest of his new teammates (ironically the Tampa Bay Rays) for a game that night.
