I'll Be Celebrating with Bon Jovi

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

That's right, the company I work for (Yellowbook) is a sponsor of the Philadelphia Soul, champions of the AFL. As such, Yellowbook arranged for some buses to travel down to Philadelphia to help celebrate the championship. Employees had to sign up and were chosen at random. Lucky me was chosen!

The parade and rally will be held tomorrow in Philadelphia, ending at city hall (more details). Look for me! I'm charging up my video camera and will have my digital camera on hand, so be sure to check back in the coming days, as I will be certain to share the sights and sounds.

Oh, and congratulations to the Philadelphia Soul!

Elysium Live!

Monday, July 28, 2008

Here's a blast from my past. My old band Elysium performed at the 2000 Henderson High School Battle of the Bands and now the video is finally online. Watching it brings back some good memories for me, as performing on the stage that night was a unique experience. I had only performed as part of a school band of some form anytime before that.

Sure, we may not have been the greatest band around, but hanging with those guys just putting together some songs was probably my favorite part of high school. Yes, there were problems keeping the band together and we had our ups and downs, but that night still goes down as one of my top memories from high school.

Man, I am such a dorky trombone player in this video.

I Met Scott Palmer

Sunday, July 27, 2008

Stef an I went to the Phillies game yesterday and went on the field for photo day. I may have made Scott Palmer's day because I can't imagine many people were calling out for him. He was walking with Jamie Moyer and Kyle Kendrick. I told Palmer that I watched him all the time on Action News and he seem flattered. I miss him doing sports on Action News, as Keith Russel just doesn't cut it for me.

Here are the rest of the pictures.

ESPN Paterno Interview

Sunday, July 20, 2008

Generally speaking I am mixed on my opinions on whether or not Joe Paterno should stay at Penn State. Obviously I will see an era of Penn State football without St. Joe, and I am ok with that. I feel his staying at PSU has hurt the Nittany Lions in some recruiting aspects but on the other hand I feel that he deserves to stay coaching as long as he feels up to it and I am willing to stick it out to watch a legend do his craft every weekend in fall.

I do believe that he is a stubborn old man but I would hate to see him forced out before retaking the lead in all time college football wins, as he currently sits one behind Bobby Bowden of Florida State entering the 2008 season. If Bowden winds up with the record, it would be a travesty for college football.

Luv Ya Lions!

Thursday, July 17, 2008

Stef entered a weekly contest on Entertainment Weekly's website, and she won last weekend! She even got mentioned in their follow up article to the contest in which people predict how the movies in theaters will rank when the weekend is over. Stef (nellarmonia) was the only perfect score!

The prize? An assortment of DVD's including Charlie Wilson's War, some Batman animated movie, some Spice Girls movie and one or two others which escape me at the moment.

Nintendo Comes Up Short

Every year around this time the E3 Media and Business Summit, formerly known as the Electronic Entertainment Expo and widely just called E3, is held and the biggest video game companies are the center of attention as they announce their big plans for the coming year. This is the time when news usually is announced for a new system or a huge game franchise newest addition.

As a Nintendo fan for a long time I have come to not expect much out of the big N, as they traditionally make their biggest news first at a similar expo in Japan at a later time. However, due to a freak accident at work causing a flooding and electrical failure thus my having an unexpected day off, I watched Nintendo's press conference live on G4 Tuesday afternoon. I am in the midst of digging into games like Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Brothers on the Wii and Legend of Zelda - Phantom Hourglass on DS so I am not exactly starving for a great new game release (I also plan on going back to finish Super Mario Galaxy with Luigi at some point as well - apparently there is a better ending). But I would be lying if I said I don't read some blogs out there with their hopes and expectations from Nintendo. Hopes of a new Zelda, Mario or Metroid were reaches (considering the last Zelda and Metroid games aren't that old). Perhaps a new Star Fox game would be announced, or maybe even the return of Pit in a new Kid Icarus game.

Instead Nintendo announced a new snow boarding game branded with Sean White's name which makes use of the Wii balance board. Meh.

A new Animal Crossing game for Wii? Better. Not a slam dunk. Although the features of the new WiiSpeak microphone have future possibilities for online play.

Also demonstrated for the public was the new Wiimote attachment that creates more realistic motion simulation and allows for more realistic game play. The game was demonstrated with the sequel to the Wii's pack in game, Wii Sports. That's right folks, watch for Wii Sports Resort! Games include sword fighting, log chopping and dog frisbee. Sword fighting looks cool, but for how long? The game will come with the MotionPlus Wiimote attachment so you can be sure that Wii Sports Resort will sell well, right?

The Nintendo DS will continue to be a major focus for the company as it continues to dominate the video game market, expanding more and more to female gamers who make up nearly 50% of the DS' market now. The addition of an exclusive Grand Theft Auto game though may help male gamers pick up steam in the DS world.

There were some other small announcements, such as Spores: Creatures, and another announcement about the latest Pokemon games. The DS is being researched for everyday functions, including receiving updated boxscores at a baseball game and maybe even ordering food at the ballpark and having it delivered! But as bland as all of this sounds, it gets worse...

No new Zelda game.

No new Metroid game.

No new Mario game.

Not even a Star Fox, Kid Icarus, or Kirby.

Instead, this...

This is a live demonstration for WiiMusic, the latest game developed by Shigeru Miyamoto. To me it seems like a dumbed down version of Rock Band. It seems as though this should be a WiiWare download. To save this demo for last in your biggest North American press conference of the year is absurd. Embarrassing. Sure, I'd like to try it out but this is a let down.

On the other hand though I am sure it will do well as we should remember the Wii's target audience; the young and the untraditional gamer. Plus if no big announcements were made here for the real key franchises in Nintendo's army, then next year should be a great one!

Did John Williams Compose This Too?

Wednesday, July 02, 2008

Well, maybe not, but I have to share this video with you.

As we head into the Fourth of July holiday weekend I wish all of you a good safe weekend as we celebrate our independence from the British. If it weren't for this day we would probably be driving on the left side of the road and watching...gulp...soccer!

Heck I know it;s not hockey season any more and I shared this during the playoffs, but gosh darn it, it gets me in the July 4th mood!

It's Been a While...

...since I could take a few minutes and just browse Amazon and add to my wish list. So I did just that, adding some new Wii games and DVD's to the mix.

I'll be set on Wii for a while now with Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Zelda Phantom Menace (I mean Phantom Hourglass) finding some playing time in my spare time.

I guess the highlight of the new additions to my Amazon Wish List would be this...

Sure, Lost Season Four probably is the true highlight, but I know Stef will buy it the day it comes out so putting it on my wish list was kind of pointless.

Speaking of Madden, how many people have purchased more Madden games than Mario games? I'm sure I'm still up on Mario games over Madden, but I think it's probably a lot closer than you would think!

Sad, I know.
