Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss

What did you have breakfast? Had I realized that today was Dr. Seuss' birthday I likely would have prepared some green eggs. Sadly, we are out of ham today.

Who has not read or had a Dr. Seuss book read to them? Today the world celebrates the birthday of a man who made reading fun.

Theodore Seuss Geisel was born on this date in 1904. He worked as an illustrator for advertising agencies but is best known for his children's books that used rhyme and rhythm to create a unique reading experience.

I only recall owning three Dr. Seuss books; The Cat in the Hat, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and my personal favorite Green Eggs and Ham. I fondly remember the enthusiasm my dad would have while reading Green Eggs and Ham to me and I find myself reciting some of the lines in certain situations on occasion.

What I identify most with the Dr. Seuss books though is the unique character designs. The characters in the Seuss books always looked strange to me. Many had bird like features with feathery skin and beak like noses. Of course this was not the case in my favorite Seuss books mentioned above. In fact the "normal" characters seemed to have cat like faces. Noses were almost non existent on characters like Sam.

Schools across the nation will celebrate the legendary author's birthday by gathering around wearing tall red and white striped hats reading The Cat in the Hat. But don't forget about some other Seuss classics...

Happy Birthday Kristi!

Today is my sister's birthday. She won't be able to read this for another couple of days because she is down in Disney World, where they have apparently named the park in her honor.

What's more is while she was down there she got engaged to Mark, who surprised her with an extra day down in Florida. We're all waiting for her to come home to congratulate them in person now.

In honor of my sister's birthday I share with you this video, which more than likely only she and I will understand.

Today is November 7, the 312th day of the year. You can read all about it right here. On this date in 1922 trumpeter Al Hirt was born. On this date in 1957 Christopher Knight was born. Who is Christopher Knight? He is the guy who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch of course!



Today is also the birthday of General David Petraeus, commander of the United States Central Command. A Japanese man by the name of Hiroshi Yamauchi also shares this birthday. You may not know a thing about Yamauchi but I will guarantee that he has touched your life in one way or another. He was president of Nintendo from 1949 to 2002, transforming the card making company into a multi billion dollar video game leader. Today he is the current richest man in Japan.

In his honor I will share with you my Nintendo ages on this, my 27th birthday (That is right, it is my birthday today - leave me best wishes in the comments section fool!);

Brain Age 2 says I am 35.

WiiFit says I am 31.

Screw you Nintendo! I am going to go play some Playstation 2 now...

Happy Birthday Stef!

Yes yes, the Phillies play in the World Series tonight and there will be more on that later (scheduled posts should go up throughout the day), but I want to take a moment to wish my beatiful wife a happy birthday!


I couldn't get Greg Dobbs to personally wish her a happy birthday. He's busy today doing something down in the Tampa area. I was able to book these guys though on short notice...
